Choosing Which Balustrade Is Best

When choosing a balustrade system it is often up to the architect as to which style is favoured and naturally the design will often reflect their client’s preferences. However, being able to choose from the comprehensive range of HomePlus balustrade systems means you can have everything from the look of a traditional baluster, through to completely frameless balustrade with hidden fixings, the ultimate in a contemporary, modern look.

First and foremost in choosing a balustrade is reassurance that it meets all safety requirements and that it will be installed in NZ homes in accordance with the relevant NZ Building Regulations. All HomePlus balustrade systems are engineered and tested to comply with NZ building regulations and are installed by authorised installers. Viking® Balustrade is a well known and trustworthy glass and aluminium system that has been specified for 15 years. It is still a firm favourite with architects and clients for both modern and older style homes, due to its wide range of style choice.

HomePlus’s Edge® glass and aluminium balustrade system was introduced 4 years ago to offer a more contemporary look, with additional handrail choices including a stylish aerofoil shape. Edge also offers hidden fixings for face fix balustrades and a greater range of glass heights.

As with the Viking range, Edge balustrade is available as a fully framed or a semi frameless design with posts and no handrail.

Edgetec® frameless balustrade series is a recent addition to the HomePlus balustrade range and provides a finish with minimal visual obstruction from posts and handrails. Edgetec Mini Post or JH Clamp systems utilise heavyweight 12mm toughened glass and low profile brackets to maximise the aesthetics of the glass infill. The key feature of both of these new systems is that they are designed in architectural aluminium to be powder coated in Dulux colours - expanding the traditional colour choice of either a polished or satin stainless steel finish for this type of balustrade fixing hardware.

Hidden fixings are available for both the Edgetec and Edge range, with gutter brackets available for waterproof or floating deck installations. The JH Clamp series is stepped out from the deck utilising packers instead of gutter brackets.
