Glass Windbreak - Practical & Good Looking

28 June 2016 by Default Admin

This stunning glass windbreak created the usable outdoor area these homeowners dreamed of.  Built on a hill site near Gore 2 years earlier, the owners love the beautiful view but not the strong winds that come with the elevated setting. Initially the customers envisioned a slatted windbreak, although they dreamed of glass fencing, but presumed this was impossible.

With no established trees to act as a barrier against the wind and a previous steel fence being blown over, the customers wanted something robust that would last.  Taking into account the durability concerns, along with the preference for glass, Brendan from HomePlus Southland recommended a glass windbreak/screen using the Edge balustrade system. The Edge semi frameless balustrade finish is engineered and tested to exceed building code requirements, including durability in different wind ‘zones’, from low to high wind strength.

Working in the current patio area, Brendan lifted the edge pavers and fitted the posts into the ground, fixed with concrete. The original pavers were then cut to fit around the posts and re installed. Toughened safety glass was fit into the post pockets, which were finished in the same silver pearl powder coat colour as the homes joinery.

Not only are the customers happy to finally have a usable outdoor area, they are absolutely thrilled with the stunning finished looks of the glass windbreak. This is a great example of a custom made solution for a customer’s particular need, drawing on a range of HomePlus product systems and experience.
